Dr Alethea McHardy is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) based in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine. She has a broad range of medical experience, having initially trained as a General Practitioner while also developing her career within sport. She works for the Ministry of Defence as the lead SEM Consultant for Scotland, as CMO for Hamilton Park Racecourse, providing care for professional jockeys and has a private practice based at Life Fit Wellness, Falkirk. She has previously worked for Scottish Rugby, England Rugby, British Swimming, GB Ultimate teams as well as working at both the London Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She brings a wealth of experience in the field of MSK ultrasound having completed a MSc in medical ultrasound through Bournemouth University and utilising it in her daily practice for diagnostic and treatment purposes (guided injections). In 2018 she was awarded the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine and British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine prize for her work with the use of ultrasound in elite divers. She also holds a postgraduate degree in medical education and has a keen interest, in particular of marrying the two together.
